Motherhood, Marriage & My Summer Style Shift

Last summer, I was figuring it out. I had an almost one-year-old, still adjusting to my postpartum body, my evolving style, and what it even meant to get dressed as a new mom. My closet was a mix of whatever still fit, whatever made sense in the moment, and whatever I could throw on while juggling baby bottles and diaper changes. But now? Now I know who I am in this season.
I’m in my non-peacocking era. I don’t have to try to be the girl—I am the girl. I don’t have to put on a show for anyone to see me. I have my husband. I have my child. I have my career blossoming. I have my purpose, my confidence, and my lane. I don’t need to prove anything to anyone.
The Shift: From Bright & Bold to Subtle & Sophisticated
My style has always been bold, bright, and attention-grabbing, but this summer is about effortless sophistication. I’m talking:
✔️ A black off-the-shoulder bodysuit, a denim jacket, and an orange hat—subtle fly, but still a look.
✔️ Monochromatic oversized pieces—chic, comfortable, and still giving boss energy.
✔️ Resort wear beyond vacation—why wait for a tropical trip to dress like luxury?
It’s not about doing the most to be seen—it’s about being seen for who I am.
Building My Summer Wardrobe with Intention
This year, I actually know the look I’m going for, and that means shopping with intention. I’m not just grabbing things at random; I’m curating a wardrobe that fits this era of my life.
So where am I shopping?
Philthy Rags, rockin remix, something by sonji for statement pieces- not to they're mention black owned designers
oak and acorn- Classic oversized pieces ( oh yeah black owned also)
Joah Brown for some basic elevated staples for effortless styling
Mixing in what I already own, recreating —because style is about creativity, not constantly buying new
I’m embracing easy-breezy summer love, but not in a “hot girl summer” way. It’s Mother. Wife. Boss. That’s the vibe.
So now, it’s time to implement it.
What’s your summer style for this season?
